English Committee – WHO (World Health Organization)

  • Topic A – Water Supply, Sanitation and HygieneWater is essential to life, but by the end of 2011, around 768 million people globally relied on unimproved drinking-water source whereas there were 2.5 billion people who still did not use an improved sanitation facility, with over 1 billion people practice open defecation. Besides, about 2 million people die every year due to diarrhoeal diseases; most of them are children less than 5 years of age. The most affected are the populations in developing countries, living in extreme conditions of poverty, normally peri-urban dwellers or rural inhabitants. On the other side, water not only sustains our life and health, but it also fuels industrial development and economic growth. A health agency like World Health Organization (WHO) is able and devotes to issuing international guidelines for water quality and providing numerous practical instruments for improving water and sanitation services. It points out that among the main problems which are responsible for this situation are: lack of to the sector, lack of financial resources, lack of sustainability of water supply and sanitation service, poor hygiene behaviors, and inadequate sanitation in public places, including hospital, health centrals and schools. Although we met the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) target for an access to water in 2012, but it is insufficient and uneven, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, for example, only 61% of the population is covered. Therefore, we underscore the importance of this pressing global issue and welcome all of you to come up with constructive and feasible solution with us in the near future.

It can be classify as education, NGO, the government, medical improvement, local environment and vaccine development. Education means how we can teach the knowledge in the local, let them know the right one. What cooperation can be made? Also, how the government make policy. The medical system can be more modern?
