Dear Delegates,

Welcome to THMUN 2014! I am extremely delighted to be your Chair in the greatest committee ever, World Health Organization (WHO). My name is Eva Lin (林越晨) I am a sophomore student at National Tsing Hua University and currently majoring in economics. I will shortly introduce myself, my experience in debate and give you a few advices for your success in this committee.

I began my debate journey since my sophomore year in high school (Oxford International School, Panama) and I have not stopped ever since. I have debated in more than a dozen committees around the world, and had the honor to obtain awards from several regional and international debates. I have also been chair and co-chair of many conferences including  Association Cultivating Inter-American Democracy. Nevertheless this will be my first time chairing for THMUN and I am going to do my best to make sure you enjoy and fall in love with the art of debating the same way I did in my first debate.

Aside from debating I get pleasure from reading books, traveling, eating chocolates, surfing, and scuba diving and working in different fields. This summer vacation I will be working at Uniplan Corp. located at the World Trade Center and shortly after I will be traveling to the Philippines and I will be back in Taiwan for THMUN 2014!

The key to triumph in a conference is what I call the “3 P’s”: Position, Preparation, and Participation. When I say Position it means that is very important to know the position of your country: What problems does it have? What has it done to solve this issue? What are your economic and political positions? Preparation is all the research you should do before the debate; aside from reading this study guide it is very important you do more research, this study guide is only a guide to the topic. Last but not least Participation, a debate would only be fun if everyone participates, there is nothing to fear we are all here to learn and enjoy!

I am sure that as a delegate you will not only learn a lot but also form a lifetime of friendships that only debate can offer.

Feel free to contact me for any inquiry or advice you might need. We are here to help.

See you soon,

EvaLin
